I Am a Pagan and I Stand for Science

Currently, I’m a student in college studying for a Biology degree. However, my story doesn’t end simply there.  I’m also a polytheistic pagan.  Yeah, you read that right, I’m a STEM student who believes in a multitude of Gods and no I don’t find either conflicting with each other.  Science is the study of the natural world and the physical laws that go along with it.  Gods on the other hand are supernatural and are outside the realm of what science can perceive.  So, science can not prove nor disprove the existence of the Gods, it’s simply based on the premise of faith and anecdotal evidence that, to me at least, the Gods exist.  I do not speak for anyone else involved in the science field nor for any other pagans out there.  This is solely my beliefs.

Now, lets get to what I’m really writing about.  As many people know there’s going to be a country wide March for Science this Saturday.  This is very very very very VERY important since we have an anti-science government in power in the US of A.  They deny climate change specifically, which has been proven conclusively with over a thousand peer reviewed paper on the subject.  The science behind climate change is literally being tossed out the window by the Trump Administration and being replaced with anti-science nonsense that is wholly backed by companies mainly in the fossil industries.  Really, that shouldn’t be too surprising in the least.  What else do you expect from a businessman?  I believe it’s important that everyone get out, everyone who gives a damn about our planet whether you are pagan, atheist, agnostic or even Christian (you guys actually have some verses in the Bible that states pollution is shunned b your Gods), should be out there marching with scientists.  There is an app for Android devices called March for Science that will help find you the nearest march.  It’s for Free so there should be no reason not to download this app.

Science is the only forward for our species.  The quest for knowledge, especially among pagans, is paramount.  Odin sacrificed Himself for knowledge of the Runes and ultimately his eye for wisdom.  Perhaps we all should be like Odin except without the dramatics of self sacrifice of body parts, but rather sacrificing our time in our lives to devote to obtaining new knowledge no matter how daunting it may seem.  In the the end, the knowledge gained through hard work and research is far more fulfilling.

So I hope that the march will be successful in forcing the Trump Administration to avert its ridiculous war on science and that soon scientists will be running for public office to exact change from within.  Hel, maybe once I get my degree, do some time in a lab, I’ll run for public office one day.  We’ll see.

Brightest Blessings to all out there and have a great Yggdrasil Day (Earth Day)!!

The Rock and the Hard Place

In this day and age of secularism and reason, a lot of us polytheists are stuck between a rock (monotheists) and a hard place (militant atheists).  These two aspects of our society believe that our beliefs are silly and wrong, which is a statement of absolute truth according to their worldview.  The problem with absolute truths is that they are always based on faith and not evidence.  It’s faith to say that many Gods exist or only one God exists and it is also faith to state that no Gods exist because if the absence of evidence to prove either claim is considered faith then so should it be said of the atheist hypothesis of no Gods.  Of course, atheists will argue that their hypothesis isn’t a hypothesis based on faith, but rather fact.  In order to know the absolute truth of either God(s) existing or not would require a feat only a demigod is capable of: resurrection from death and thus far no one with these past few centuries can claim that mantle, so if no one among us, polytheists, monotheists and atheists, haven’t returned from the dead then none of us know the absolute truth of the existence or nature of the Gods and thus it’s based wholly on faith alone and nothing more.  To say otherwise is intellectual dishonesty.

The militant atheists are no better than the militant monotheists who protest funerals of soldiers, who deny basic rights to the LGBT community and believe without any questioning that their beliefs are rooted in truth.  When you put Richard Dawkins next to Pat Robertson, though their beliefs differ, their tactics do not differ in any way.  They belittle the heretics and assume that the non-believers of their faith are nothing more than ignorant trolls that are better off hiding in caves.  They question nothing of their own beliefs due to the fact that they believe they are right and rooted deeply into the truth of the matter.

I firmly question everything as someone that is a student in the sciences and sometimes I have my problems with my faith, but never can I become an atheist because nothing is certain.  And never do I feel that because I’m a student of the sciences that means I should automatically become an atheist.  That’s nothing more than a herd mentality that is also seen in many religious cults, believe this way and nothing else.  I do, however, keep my religion separate from my scientific views.  Since science can neither prove nor disprove the supernatural there’s no reason for my faith to be intertwined with my scientific views and vice versa.  To anyone who would ever suggest that I should get out of the science field because of my faith I can only say, look inwards at the level ignorance you have shown and wonder, aloud, if maybe you need to step away from science and not tarnish it with your closed mind.  Yes, no one should deny evolution, especially the teaching of, due to religious views, but one should not deny exploration of the world via science because someone believes differently than you.  Isn’t this what Galileo and other early scientists faced when their facts conflicted with the monotheist world view?  How dare you then do as the monotheists have done and become the ignorance you so rightly want to get rid of.  Using ignorance to get rid of ignorance equates to nothing (1-1=0)

Oh, Mr Branson!

I consider myself pretty much an environmentalist.  I recycle as much as possible, I try and buy stuff that is of post-consumer recycled stuff and I support those organizations that try and preserve what’s left of Nature.  However, when I see this shit from filthy rich corporate fat cats like Sir RIchard Branson I can’t help but laugh.  He, along with Tim Cook of Apple, are telling those who deny global warming to piss off in a way.  Well, let’s start with Apple that has it’s shit built over in China that has a sever lack of workers rights at these Apple plants to the point where Chinese Apple workers are committing suicide.  Enough said, Tim Cook, how about you fix the problems over there or else shut the fuck up!  Help humans have a better work environment before you start telling global warming deniers to drop your stock.

Now, Sir Richard Branson, what is this nonsense about global warming when you sure as hell aren’t positing any solutions!  7.1 million metric tons of CO2 are belched out of your fucking airlines and yet you have the audacity to tell global warming deniers to piss off?  Go to Hel you pompous blowhard!  How about taking the initiative instead of being a foul hypocrite!  Hop off that lofty saddle of indignation you have yourself on and come back down to Earth.  You have a boat load of money (or more adequately boat loads of money) to stuff into green projects.  Stop being an asshole and do something already!  Get your airlines greened up and then talk like the elitists you are, you corporate piece of shit!

I get sick and tired of these higher than thou CEOs who preach a good game, but rarely practice what they preach.  We need to start holding these idiots accountable for theirs words in comparison to their actions instead of cheerleading these fat headed freaks of nature who enjoy hearing the sound of their voices.
