Being someone of South American descent, I was never raised under the auspice of race or racism. In fact, I was raised color blind. I know, the term “color blind” is now considered covert racism, which is absolute nonsense. My parents didn’t want me to recognize nor prejudge a person by the way they looked, but rather by their character. Throughout my childhood anyone darker than me I just saw it as that, just a tanned human being with no label other than their given name. The mind of a child is an amazing thing in life and the ability to accept people as they are is born into us. For example, my mother worked at an animal shelter whom had a co-worker that was black. Once in awhile, I would go with my mom and the black woman would bring her children as well. We’d have a good ol’ time just playing and being kids. Not once did I think of them as anything but fellow children. It wasn’t until high school that the idea of people being separated based on “race” (I use that term in quotations due to the fact that there is only one race, the human race) due to ones melanin content was actually a thing. To me, basing what “race” someone is based of the melanin content of ones flesh is ridiculous. It’s nothing more than evolutionary by-product that has ZERO bearing on who you are as a person. No one, by virtue of their abundance, or lack there of, of melanin make them superior nor inferior. The dream that Martin Luther King Jr. had was of a world where our differences no longer mattered. However, today we have begun to reverse our progress in “race” relations towards neo-segregationism where the idea of a “black only showing…” of a movie is something to be applauded. No, nothing that divides human beings is never a good idea. I’m sorry, but that isn’t progress, it’s regressive.
Throughout my adolescence my father, who is of Spanish (originating in the Canary Islands), Italian (both a mix of northern and southern Italian) and French, always made it a point to remind that due to our Italian and Spanish heritage that we have North African(Moors/Berbers) blood pumping through our veins. And from mothers side of the family we have English, Irish, Welsh, German, Dutch, Swedish and Native American blood. So, I’m not exactly pure anything, I’m a mutt. My mother made sure to remind me of that as well. We’re not pure anything. Having these ideas surrounding me growing up made any sense of pure anything really to me and became even more alien when you realize that in human history with the migration out of Africa of our early ancestors and the successive invasions by different groups of people, the idea of pure anything becomes ridiculous to even contemplate. Anyone who figures they’re pure anything, especially here in America, they obviously have no sense of human history. Also, keep in mind, if “race” truly mattered mutts like me wouldn’t exist. Since we do exist, that only means there’s no genetic difference between all of us human beings and the lie that racial supremacists have been fed is an absolute crock of shit. I do get pride in your ancestors and I think that’s great, but when we use our ancestors as a means of puffing up our delusional superiority, that’s when it becomes a problem.
So, why do we do this to ourselves, allow ourselves to be separated by petty and silly labels that truly have no meaning. We aggravate our lives with these lies of “race” even though science shows otherwise. If humanity is to have any future it needs to start deconstructing the lie of “race” and start realizing that there is one race, the Human Race. If a conquering alien civilization came to Earth, they wouldn’t see white vs. black, but rather all a bunch of humans that should be conquered and nothing more. The superiority of your “race” would mean nothing to an advanced and aggressive species. You can call me a covert racist, like I’m sure some might want or even a “race” traitor, none of that matters because I feel my convictions are right and once people start to get their fetishism over “race” we humans might actually make a decent species for once. You want change? That’s where it begins.
As a current student in the sciences and a polytheistic heathen, this issue strikes deep into my core. Personally, my ability to rationalize what science offers on the table and my religious beliefs are kept compartmentalized into their respective corners of psyche. Science, as we have been taught, explains how the natural world works. Since the Gods, spirits and anything otherworldly is beyond science, beyond the natural and hence supernatural, science can not and will never prove that the supernatural exists or not. No scientific instrument nor method of observation has been formulated specifically for the supernatural, so for a theist or an atheist say that via science the truth is absolutely known. The truth isn’t absolutely known and anyone who states such is basing it off of faith and not fact. Yes, that includes atheism because to state the unknowable as truth is faith in such a personally accepted truth.
People state that there is a war between science and religion and personally I think that’s absolute hokum drummed up by anti-science or anti-religious zealots out there who haven’t the capacity to have an open mind not a civil discussion on how science can thrive even though one is religious. It’s a false dichotomy to believe because is in the science field they must be an atheist or that if someone is religious that they can’t accept scientific facts. If these assertions were true we would’ve shunned Issac Newton and Francis Collins (former head of the Human Genome Project and current director of the National Health Institute), but fortunately we haven’t shunned these folks and our understanding of the natural world is furthered because of them. The only war is in the minds of vapid folks who can’t grasp that people can accept science and their religious beliefs without either side being compromised. So in essence, keep your beliefs, whether it’s theistic or atheistic, out of science. Period. No personal religious/non-religious beliefs need to be injected into science because science can neither prove nor disprove the existence of the supernatural.
Science doesn’t need to be at war with religion and vice versa. People like Richard Dawkins need to stop with their zealotry and step back and realize they are no better than the fundamentalists who want to throw science out the window because it doesn’t adhere to their Young Earth Creationism (Francis Collins doesn’t adhere to this nonsense, but still is a Christian…interesting).
I’ve refrained from entering this fray just to see how things pan out and of course it panned out with the Left shaming the Right as callous animal haters and the Right shaming the Left into being anti-Human folks. I’m going to delve into a little bit of honesty, brutal honesty in fact and it’s not going to be pretty.
First, lets tackle the Rights lament for the Left not having a heart for the down trodden in Africa (or anyone who tries shaming those who support Cecil into feeling guilty), if you truly, TRULY cared about the plight of the downtrodden in Africa and Zimbabwe, you would be there right now sacrificing your cushy First World lifestyle and comfortable leisure time to help those less fortunate than you. Fact is, you really don’t give a damn at all about those who are suffering in Africa or elsewhere. You’re simply trying to make those who support Cecil feel like crap for what they hold dear to their hearts. I feel that you are worse than those you are trying to shame because it’s simply fake. So for the sake of actual, true humanity, just stop it unless you’re willing to put your money where your mouth is and lead by example instead of strong words.
Second, the issue of Cecil is disturbing and I truly believe that lions should be placed on the endangered species list and that Cecil should serve as the figurehead of this much needed change. However, this has been ongoing for years now, illegal poaching/trophy hunting, and NOW people are realizing the problem? This is sickening and should have been addressed years ago, but because of the complacency of our apex species (yes apex because with our ability to innovate and our technology we have spread worldwide which makes us the dominant species) we’ve only begun to raise awareness for a travesty that may be too late. We’ve also become quite callous to all life including our own. My fear is that once the Cecil Furor dies down so will our faux compassion for animals. We have become a sensation driven society that we have collective ADD where one issue trumps another issue until the next issue comes along to knock the previous one off the mantel. We either need to stick to our guns or just simply be lulled back into our complacency for good. There’s no sense in jumping from one issue to another without ever fully fixing the problem. Yeah, it’s great that airlines won’t be shipping trophy heads of animals, but that’s one small solution for a relatively big problem and that’s to a) get endangered species onto the endangered species list and b) prosecute these folks to the fullest extent of the law with NO exceptions.
All life should be considered sacred and the death and plight of a living being should be met with sadness because we’re all related whether you believe a deity created us all or that we emerged from a common ancestor millions of years ago.
As we progress further into the 21st Century, racial tensions have increased by the simplistic manipulation by the New Royalty aka the politicians of both the Left and the Right and the Race Baiting minions of said politicians. Race is the disease that infests the human mind like a virus running rampant destroying life giving cells on the body. Instead of destroying the body of the host, it destroys the mind of the person and creates the illusion that we humans are different in any way. Except we aren’t different, we are all of the same species. The only thing different is the amount of melanin contained within the flesh of human beings. This is simply superficial, but because we are a superficial species race tends to be held sacrosanct, an idol of worship that a lot of people get on their knees and blindly follow. Race, in other words, is nothing but an illusion created by the powers that be to control the population via forced culture (aka stereotypes) and absolute division. With unity of the human species comes true solutions and power unlike anything we have ever seen.
If humanity were to cast aside their pride and realize the destructive nature of recognizing race, we would be able to solve the problems that afflict this planet because no borders would separate us anymore. We would be united for the common cause of bettering our species. We could finally prove to the universe that we are a species able to overcome our petty, superficial differences. People like David Duke, Saida Grundy, and other race baiting, fear mongering zealots would not be able to profit anymore on keeping humanity divided. We would be too educated afterwards to allow these hateful zealots room in our hearts and minds. We would finally be set free from the shackles that recognizing race puts us in. Our full potential would be used once and for all for everyone and not a select few.
Humanity must once and for all be united as one race, the Human Race! That is who we are regardless of the traits of high melanin content or not given to us by evolution of our species in certain environments. We are Human Beings, not black, white, red, brown, yellow or whatever else. Those superficial labels destroy our species, keeps us divided, and harms people along the way. Racial recognition is an evil that needs to be stamped out like an ember that threatens a forest on a dry, summer day. Today, from here on out, make a commitment to yourself and others that you will no longer see them as one of those superficial labels, but as a fellow traveler on our planet Earth, as a Human Being! Boldly proclaim that we are all Brothers and Sisters of Earth and of one race, the Human Race! This is the revolution we truly need right now!
Some will say that I’m wrong and perhaps I am somewhat wrong to state that honor is pretty damn near dead in this society. Honor can still be found in our military, in our volunteer firefights, EMTs and to a lesser extent in our increasingly fascistic police. However, in our general, overall society it’s pretty much dead. When you read reports of people attacking others physically for material want, people opting a techno gadget over a human being, people risking life and limb going into a house for a TV or gaming system, people killing defenseless animals such as dogs and cats for no really good reason you have to come to grips with the reality of the situation: people have no honor anymore. How can anyone say that we are honorable when people won’t do the right thing, besides calling 911, when a fellow human being is being attacked on the streets? You can’t and it’s not an isolated incident either. We’re becoming, due to our rapid advanced of technology, our increasingly dependence on such, expanding social media, we’re becoming an alienated and, for lack of a better word, sucky species.
Perhaps those taking the brunt of our garbage intense society is the real War on Women. They are placed into a situation that creates in them certain ailments such as anorexia, bulimia and a host of other physical/emotional ailments due to weight. Back in the elder ages (ancient times) women who were skinny weren’t desirable and for good reason. It usually meant they were sick and malnourished. The women with a bit of meat on their bones were the ones who were sought after because it meant a healthy woman. These women were termed Rubenesque. These days, Rubenesque women are considered overweight and undesirable and the more bone skinny women are placed on the pedestal of desirability. And of course, where do these standards come from that women blindly follow despite calling themselves feminists? Men. Still, after all of these years trying to liberate themselves from the shackles of men they still slave along to the whims of men. We can’t decide if women look good with meat on their bones or just bones. Thus, we have driven them practically insane with self revisionism on a daily basis. I understand the negative health impact on people in general who are morbidly obese, but when it comes to a woman who ha a few extra pounds we’ll shouldn’t belittle them into oblivion because they aren’t what some individual metrosexual males consider to be ideal. And that’s the crux of the problem are these effeminate metrosexual who aren’t strong enough to deal with a woman who has a few extra pounds. That’s to be expected of these simple weaklings. Hell, if they can’t deal with a real relationship what makes you think they can deal with a real woman? Enough said.
Senior Citizens, Our Elders
Once upon a time, our elderly folk were revered for their breadth of wisdom. Today, we tell them to basically shut up and throw them into nursing homes because we simply can’t be bothered to take care of those who took care of us when we were puking, pooping toddlers. No, we no longer ask them to bestow their years of experiences compounded into wise anecdotes anymore. We ignore them and claim they are going senile. I ask you, what is the point of longevity when the wisdom that comes along with such long lives is simply written off and ignored? Good Gods! What wisdom we could use today with our faltering economy on how self-sustain ourselves and live simply during these perilous economic times! We must be insane for not asking those who went through the Great Depression on how we can improve our lot in life during these times. Our society took a nose dive into a festering piss pot when we decided it was a good idea to throw our elders into nursing homes that is rampant with abuse. We lost our humanity when the wisdom keepers were ignored and treated like a lame horse. We don’t deserve their wisdom and never will unless we change our ways.
Virtual Reality Trumps Reality
Video games are quickly becoming the escape hatch from reality. Adults and kids alike glue themselves to a screen where a virtual world opens up before where you can shoot and kill hundreds of digital people without thinking about it. And I can’t blame them. The world is pretty damn boring in comparison to the adrenaline rush you get from playing these games. I can attest to it as a game player, but these days I have hard time playing anymore due to my love for being outside. I’d rather soak up some ultraviolet radiation tending to my garden than play a game that doesn’t give me the same sense of purpose. That is my escape from reality for a few hours. Unfortunately, too many find the escape in games and they end up lost in it. And we wonder and gripe about the callous Black Friday morons who trample each other? By way of video games we have dehumanized each other and that climbing over the mountains of humans before us we can get what we want. Let it be known, though, I blame the individual adult and parents of these game addicted people and not the games or game developers themselves.
There are still those who hold the flame of honor high, but they are quickly becoming extinct as our callous nature continues to grow with our being constantly wired to our technology. We find it hard to detach ourselves from our shiny gadgets and look at the world as it is. Just one day away from our social media outlets and we feel lost and alone despite our friends and family being a cellphone call away. Despite the alone feeling, however, we treat each other like aliens from a different planet. Someone does something nice for another person and it’s either met with a surprised over-reaction or a look of suspicion. The world isn’t as it used to be, honorable, where kind actions were just everyday things that one appreciated, but wasn’t surprised to experience. This is how bad this society has become and it’s not getting any better. Instead, it’s getting worse with each new day. Maybe, I can be proven wrong when I’m an old fart in a nursing home.
