I believe it’s every Americans right to arm themselves especially in a world so inclined towards violence. I believe also that we need to use the laws that we already have on the books to make sure that people are safe from gun violence.
I think it’s sexist to tell a woman to use a whistle in the event that she’s about to be assaulted. Women especially should be able to conceal carry a gun as an alternative to the whistle method that anti-Second Amendment would want. Their emotional plea for a gun free society is selfish in that it establishes that since they don’t have gun nor need one that no one else should. Now, there are those who seem anti-gun, but aren’t. Those folks simply want gun laws that protect people from gun violence. In fact, my wife has thought (more so lately with the insanity we’re seeing around the world and in our country) about going through the lengthy process of getting a gun and I can’t blame her. I absolutely support her in doing so. When I can’t be with her at all times, I believe it’s imperative that she keep herself safe whatever way possible. She’s not dumb nor irresponsible so it goes without saying that she would do fine owning a gun.
Those who wish to limit access to guns want to blatantly trample on the Constitution, be my guest because I can guarantee that a majority of Americans are pro-Second Amendment especially witnessing the horrors of the 20th Century when fascist/communist governments disarmed their people in order to have absolute control over the people. What limits should be placed on gun ownership should be a dialog opened up between those want to limits gun ownership and those who don’t. It needs to be civil and without condescending remarks. Without this criteria in place nothing will happen that will appeal to both sides of the aisle.
Recently, Wild Bill for America laid out a “plan” to indoctrinate public schools with his vision of monotheistic collectivism. Now what religion a person practices is of no concern to me, but when blast Leftist indoctrination in schools while supporting monotheistic indictrination then I tend to have a problem. Remember these are the same people who say take responsibility for your own children and that public schools shouldn’t be some daycare that does your job as parents for you. While I doubt such a plan would ever take hold in any sane society, it does show how the extreme Right is willing to negate their own beliefs for the sake of their own brand of collectivism. Collectivism, as any ideology becomes extreme, will rear its head no matter if it is radical Leftism or radical Rightism. Wild Bill, Trump and their cohorts want to impose on our society their version of collectivism. I am againsy nonsense like this since it is the antithesis of freedom and what our Constitution stands for. Wild Bill for America and Trump are both anti-freedom collectivists that should be challenged at every turn.
Conservative – believing in the value of established and traditional practices in politics and society : relating to or supporting political conservatism
Something I’ve been pondering for a long while especially when stumbling the internet a slew of blogs titled Conservative Pagans: Yes We Exist (which unfortunately no longer exists), that the modern stereotype by conservatives themselves is that pagans tend to be liberal. I believe that’s not an accurate assessment, I believe many pagans tend to be Libertarians or center due to our inherent knowledge of history and how the more oppressive a government becomes the more prone it is to force everyone to adhere to the regimes system of belief. However, I want to explore the idea that paganism is conservative in nature, not politically but traditionally.
What we pagans are trying to do is to revive the indigenous religions of Europe and all over the world. These were the original religions before monotheism ran amok converting those they feel were worshiping false Gods. In the attempt to revive we have brought back a majority of the practices of these old religions which is the definition of conservatism. Now we’ve pretty much done away with animal and human sacrifice due in part to Christianity and its influence, but that’s about it. We have been using texts that have survived the ages of destruction and burning as our guides into the insights of the old religions. Through this endeavor we have conserved the old religions in modern books and on the internet.
So, basically we pagans tend to be a bit conservative, but not entirely because in modern parlance conservatism is relegated to the Judeo-Christian Conservatism rather than in the sense I’m talking about. A great deal of us pagans believe in the scientific validity of evolution (which does go along with the idea that we are all birthed from the Earth like in many of our creation stories), some of us are pro-choice (or don’t care either way which I tend to swing, I don’t have uterus to make such a decision), and some of us believe in equality for all (I myself being pro-gay rights). So this swing us into a center/Libertarian grouping as opposed to full on conservatism.
Of course, this is all my own pondering and nothing more. I don’t speak for all of paganism nor wish to. I just like to throw ideas out there to other minds churning. Through civil discourse new ideas are born into the world, some good, some bad.
As a current student in the sciences and a polytheistic heathen, this issue strikes deep into my core. Personally, my ability to rationalize what science offers on the table and my religious beliefs are kept compartmentalized into their respective corners of psyche. Science, as we have been taught, explains how the natural world works. Since the Gods, spirits and anything otherworldly is beyond science, beyond the natural and hence supernatural, science can not and will never prove that the supernatural exists or not. No scientific instrument nor method of observation has been formulated specifically for the supernatural, so for a theist or an atheist say that via science the truth is absolutely known. The truth isn’t absolutely known and anyone who states such is basing it off of faith and not fact. Yes, that includes atheism because to state the unknowable as truth is faith in such a personally accepted truth.
People state that there is a war between science and religion and personally I think that’s absolute hokum drummed up by anti-science or anti-religious zealots out there who haven’t the capacity to have an open mind not a civil discussion on how science can thrive even though one is religious. It’s a false dichotomy to believe because is in the science field they must be an atheist or that if someone is religious that they can’t accept scientific facts. If these assertions were true we would’ve shunned Issac Newton and Francis Collins (former head of the Human Genome Project and current director of the National Health Institute), but fortunately we haven’t shunned these folks and our understanding of the natural world is furthered because of them. The only war is in the minds of vapid folks who can’t grasp that people can accept science and their religious beliefs without either side being compromised. So in essence, keep your beliefs, whether it’s theistic or atheistic, out of science. Period. No personal religious/non-religious beliefs need to be injected into science because science can neither prove nor disprove the existence of the supernatural.
Science doesn’t need to be at war with religion and vice versa. People like Richard Dawkins need to stop with their zealotry and step back and realize they are no better than the fundamentalists who want to throw science out the window because it doesn’t adhere to their Young Earth Creationism (Francis Collins doesn’t adhere to this nonsense, but still is a Christian…interesting).
I’ve refrained from entering this fray just to see how things pan out and of course it panned out with the Left shaming the Right as callous animal haters and the Right shaming the Left into being anti-Human folks. I’m going to delve into a little bit of honesty, brutal honesty in fact and it’s not going to be pretty.
First, lets tackle the Rights lament for the Left not having a heart for the down trodden in Africa (or anyone who tries shaming those who support Cecil into feeling guilty), if you truly, TRULY cared about the plight of the downtrodden in Africa and Zimbabwe, you would be there right now sacrificing your cushy First World lifestyle and comfortable leisure time to help those less fortunate than you. Fact is, you really don’t give a damn at all about those who are suffering in Africa or elsewhere. You’re simply trying to make those who support Cecil feel like crap for what they hold dear to their hearts. I feel that you are worse than those you are trying to shame because it’s simply fake. So for the sake of actual, true humanity, just stop it unless you’re willing to put your money where your mouth is and lead by example instead of strong words.
Second, the issue of Cecil is disturbing and I truly believe that lions should be placed on the endangered species list and that Cecil should serve as the figurehead of this much needed change. However, this has been ongoing for years now, illegal poaching/trophy hunting, and NOW people are realizing the problem? This is sickening and should have been addressed years ago, but because of the complacency of our apex species (yes apex because with our ability to innovate and our technology we have spread worldwide which makes us the dominant species) we’ve only begun to raise awareness for a travesty that may be too late. We’ve also become quite callous to all life including our own. My fear is that once the Cecil Furor dies down so will our faux compassion for animals. We have become a sensation driven society that we have collective ADD where one issue trumps another issue until the next issue comes along to knock the previous one off the mantel. We either need to stick to our guns or just simply be lulled back into our complacency for good. There’s no sense in jumping from one issue to another without ever fully fixing the problem. Yeah, it’s great that airlines won’t be shipping trophy heads of animals, but that’s one small solution for a relatively big problem and that’s to a) get endangered species onto the endangered species list and b) prosecute these folks to the fullest extent of the law with NO exceptions.
All life should be considered sacred and the death and plight of a living being should be met with sadness because we’re all related whether you believe a deity created us all or that we emerged from a common ancestor millions of years ago.
As we progress further into the 21st Century, racial tensions have increased by the simplistic manipulation by the New Royalty aka the politicians of both the Left and the Right and the Race Baiting minions of said politicians. Race is the disease that infests the human mind like a virus running rampant destroying life giving cells on the body. Instead of destroying the body of the host, it destroys the mind of the person and creates the illusion that we humans are different in any way. Except we aren’t different, we are all of the same species. The only thing different is the amount of melanin contained within the flesh of human beings. This is simply superficial, but because we are a superficial species race tends to be held sacrosanct, an idol of worship that a lot of people get on their knees and blindly follow. Race, in other words, is nothing but an illusion created by the powers that be to control the population via forced culture (aka stereotypes) and absolute division. With unity of the human species comes true solutions and power unlike anything we have ever seen.
If humanity were to cast aside their pride and realize the destructive nature of recognizing race, we would be able to solve the problems that afflict this planet because no borders would separate us anymore. We would be united for the common cause of bettering our species. We could finally prove to the universe that we are a species able to overcome our petty, superficial differences. People like David Duke, Saida Grundy, and other race baiting, fear mongering zealots would not be able to profit anymore on keeping humanity divided. We would be too educated afterwards to allow these hateful zealots room in our hearts and minds. We would finally be set free from the shackles that recognizing race puts us in. Our full potential would be used once and for all for everyone and not a select few.
Humanity must once and for all be united as one race, the Human Race! That is who we are regardless of the traits of high melanin content or not given to us by evolution of our species in certain environments. We are Human Beings, not black, white, red, brown, yellow or whatever else. Those superficial labels destroy our species, keeps us divided, and harms people along the way. Racial recognition is an evil that needs to be stamped out like an ember that threatens a forest on a dry, summer day. Today, from here on out, make a commitment to yourself and others that you will no longer see them as one of those superficial labels, but as a fellow traveler on our planet Earth, as a Human Being! Boldly proclaim that we are all Brothers and Sisters of Earth and of one race, the Human Race! This is the revolution we truly need right now!
