Currently, I’m a student in college studying for a Biology degree. However, my story doesn’t end simply there. I’m also a polytheistic pagan. Yeah, you read that right, I’m a STEM student who believes in a multitude of Gods and no I don’t find either conflicting with each other. Science is the study of the natural world and the physical laws that go along with it. Gods on the other hand are supernatural and are outside the realm of what science can perceive. So, science can not prove nor disprove the existence of the Gods, it’s simply based on the premise of faith and anecdotal evidence that, to me at least, the Gods exist. I do not speak for anyone else involved in the science field nor for any other pagans out there. This is solely my beliefs.
Now, lets get to what I’m really writing about. As many people know there’s going to be a country wide March for Science this Saturday. This is very very very very VERY important since we have an anti-science government in power in the US of A. They deny climate change specifically, which has been proven conclusively with over a thousand peer reviewed paper on the subject. The science behind climate change is literally being tossed out the window by the Trump Administration and being replaced with anti-science nonsense that is wholly backed by companies mainly in the fossil industries. Really, that shouldn’t be too surprising in the least. What else do you expect from a businessman? I believe it’s important that everyone get out, everyone who gives a damn about our planet whether you are pagan, atheist, agnostic or even Christian (you guys actually have some verses in the Bible that states pollution is shunned b your Gods), should be out there marching with scientists. There is an app for Android devices called March for Science that will help find you the nearest march. It’s for Free so there should be no reason not to download this app.
Science is the only forward for our species. The quest for knowledge, especially among pagans, is paramount. Odin sacrificed Himself for knowledge of the Runes and ultimately his eye for wisdom. Perhaps we all should be like Odin except without the dramatics of self sacrifice of body parts, but rather sacrificing our time in our lives to devote to obtaining new knowledge no matter how daunting it may seem. In the the end, the knowledge gained through hard work and research is far more fulfilling.
So I hope that the march will be successful in forcing the Trump Administration to avert its ridiculous war on science and that soon scientists will be running for public office to exact change from within. Hel, maybe once I get my degree, do some time in a lab, I’ll run for public office one day. We’ll see.
Brightest Blessings to all out there and have a great Yggdrasil Day (Earth Day)!!
Hated… time and time again
Force fed, suppress senseless fear of difference
True self suppression, hollow dreams of misery
Blind wish to see
Indifference to be
Freedom, expressionless bouts of legislation
True self repression, take a stance of fall to your needs
Corrupt in the system
Laws bent to other needs
God fearing idiocy
Ignore just pleas
Blind wish to see
Indifference to be
Ruling powers be
Never really free

The news media are like a pack of sharks circling around waiting for their first sniff of blood in the water. When that blood does seep into the water, the mere thought of a ratings bonanza sends them into frenzy attacking whatever has spilled that blood. This is what we are seeing whenever Trump says something way out in left field. I personally can’t stand Trump. I think he is a phony and a crook. However, I don’t believe he’s stupid as everyone wants to pretend that he is. In fact, I see a very intelligent man who knows how to work the media to do his bidding. Ask yourself this, how do you keep the headlines with your name in it? Establish controversy by saying something so off the wall that the media can’t ignore it. This guy knows the media well since he’s been in it so many times before. He knows how to work the media to keep the limelight on him at all times and thus keeping it off Hillary (unless it’s negative then he lets it be).
I believe the news media is the reason why Trump is, so far, a success. Yes, I blame the media for putting Trump to the forefront of everything. I can’t turn on CNN, MSNBC, FOX or any other news station without being bombarded by Trumps Cheeto tan, raccoon eyes, and ridiculous toupee. I’ve boycotted all news channels because of this. If the media is so inclined to bashing Trump, why are they ignoring the fact that they are giving free air time each time he says something crazy? I seriously doubt the Liberal lean of news media and that what interests them more are ratings rather than political persuasion. If indeed the news media wants to crush Trump then they need only to stop being played by him. We know, though, that they won’t…strike that….they CAN’T resist throwing the limelight on him because, like any addict, they need that ratings fix that is induced by the majority of people who are thrown into a seething anger whenever Trump is mentioned.
This is the media blitz, folks, and it’s tearing our country apart with divisiveness and half truths. Everyone who hasn’t the time to research everything said by every politician simply parrot what the chosen interpretation of a news blurb whether it’s from Trump instigating foreign hackers or the misconstrued idea of “death panels” contained within a healthcare reform legislation. The media tells us what they want us to believe rather than objectively stating the news of the day. Objectivity in the news is long gone and probably will never resurrect from the dead.
As a current student in the sciences and a polytheistic heathen, this issue strikes deep into my core. Personally, my ability to rationalize what science offers on the table and my religious beliefs are kept compartmentalized into their respective corners of psyche. Science, as we have been taught, explains how the natural world works. Since the Gods, spirits and anything otherworldly is beyond science, beyond the natural and hence supernatural, science can not and will never prove that the supernatural exists or not. No scientific instrument nor method of observation has been formulated specifically for the supernatural, so for a theist or an atheist say that via science the truth is absolutely known. The truth isn’t absolutely known and anyone who states such is basing it off of faith and not fact. Yes, that includes atheism because to state the unknowable as truth is faith in such a personally accepted truth.
People state that there is a war between science and religion and personally I think that’s absolute hokum drummed up by anti-science or anti-religious zealots out there who haven’t the capacity to have an open mind not a civil discussion on how science can thrive even though one is religious. It’s a false dichotomy to believe because is in the science field they must be an atheist or that if someone is religious that they can’t accept scientific facts. If these assertions were true we would’ve shunned Issac Newton and Francis Collins (former head of the Human Genome Project and current director of the National Health Institute), but fortunately we haven’t shunned these folks and our understanding of the natural world is furthered because of them. The only war is in the minds of vapid folks who can’t grasp that people can accept science and their religious beliefs without either side being compromised. So in essence, keep your beliefs, whether it’s theistic or atheistic, out of science. Period. No personal religious/non-religious beliefs need to be injected into science because science can neither prove nor disprove the existence of the supernatural.
Science doesn’t need to be at war with religion and vice versa. People like Richard Dawkins need to stop with their zealotry and step back and realize they are no better than the fundamentalists who want to throw science out the window because it doesn’t adhere to their Young Earth Creationism (Francis Collins doesn’t adhere to this nonsense, but still is a Christian…interesting).
I’ve refrained from entering this fray just to see how things pan out and of course it panned out with the Left shaming the Right as callous animal haters and the Right shaming the Left into being anti-Human folks. I’m going to delve into a little bit of honesty, brutal honesty in fact and it’s not going to be pretty.
First, lets tackle the Rights lament for the Left not having a heart for the down trodden in Africa (or anyone who tries shaming those who support Cecil into feeling guilty), if you truly, TRULY cared about the plight of the downtrodden in Africa and Zimbabwe, you would be there right now sacrificing your cushy First World lifestyle and comfortable leisure time to help those less fortunate than you. Fact is, you really don’t give a damn at all about those who are suffering in Africa or elsewhere. You’re simply trying to make those who support Cecil feel like crap for what they hold dear to their hearts. I feel that you are worse than those you are trying to shame because it’s simply fake. So for the sake of actual, true humanity, just stop it unless you’re willing to put your money where your mouth is and lead by example instead of strong words.
Second, the issue of Cecil is disturbing and I truly believe that lions should be placed on the endangered species list and that Cecil should serve as the figurehead of this much needed change. However, this has been ongoing for years now, illegal poaching/trophy hunting, and NOW people are realizing the problem? This is sickening and should have been addressed years ago, but because of the complacency of our apex species (yes apex because with our ability to innovate and our technology we have spread worldwide which makes us the dominant species) we’ve only begun to raise awareness for a travesty that may be too late. We’ve also become quite callous to all life including our own. My fear is that once the Cecil Furor dies down so will our faux compassion for animals. We have become a sensation driven society that we have collective ADD where one issue trumps another issue until the next issue comes along to knock the previous one off the mantel. We either need to stick to our guns or just simply be lulled back into our complacency for good. There’s no sense in jumping from one issue to another without ever fully fixing the problem. Yeah, it’s great that airlines won’t be shipping trophy heads of animals, but that’s one small solution for a relatively big problem and that’s to a) get endangered species onto the endangered species list and b) prosecute these folks to the fullest extent of the law with NO exceptions.
All life should be considered sacred and the death and plight of a living being should be met with sadness because we’re all related whether you believe a deity created us all or that we emerged from a common ancestor millions of years ago.
As we progress further into the 21st Century, racial tensions have increased by the simplistic manipulation by the New Royalty aka the politicians of both the Left and the Right and the Race Baiting minions of said politicians. Race is the disease that infests the human mind like a virus running rampant destroying life giving cells on the body. Instead of destroying the body of the host, it destroys the mind of the person and creates the illusion that we humans are different in any way. Except we aren’t different, we are all of the same species. The only thing different is the amount of melanin contained within the flesh of human beings. This is simply superficial, but because we are a superficial species race tends to be held sacrosanct, an idol of worship that a lot of people get on their knees and blindly follow. Race, in other words, is nothing but an illusion created by the powers that be to control the population via forced culture (aka stereotypes) and absolute division. With unity of the human species comes true solutions and power unlike anything we have ever seen.
If humanity were to cast aside their pride and realize the destructive nature of recognizing race, we would be able to solve the problems that afflict this planet because no borders would separate us anymore. We would be united for the common cause of bettering our species. We could finally prove to the universe that we are a species able to overcome our petty, superficial differences. People like David Duke, Saida Grundy, and other race baiting, fear mongering zealots would not be able to profit anymore on keeping humanity divided. We would be too educated afterwards to allow these hateful zealots room in our hearts and minds. We would finally be set free from the shackles that recognizing race puts us in. Our full potential would be used once and for all for everyone and not a select few.
Humanity must once and for all be united as one race, the Human Race! That is who we are regardless of the traits of high melanin content or not given to us by evolution of our species in certain environments. We are Human Beings, not black, white, red, brown, yellow or whatever else. Those superficial labels destroy our species, keeps us divided, and harms people along the way. Racial recognition is an evil that needs to be stamped out like an ember that threatens a forest on a dry, summer day. Today, from here on out, make a commitment to yourself and others that you will no longer see them as one of those superficial labels, but as a fellow traveler on our planet Earth, as a Human Being! Boldly proclaim that we are all Brothers and Sisters of Earth and of one race, the Human Race! This is the revolution we truly need right now!
Back when I was 18 I began getting into politics. Though it was unfortunate I started off on the Left I did learn a lot about how the Left works and what it really wants as it’s utopia. And when I say I was on the Left I mean I was a communist. I joined the CPUSA in 2000 and then joined a Trotskyist group called the WIL (Workers International League). Do I regret it? Not really, because from it, like I said earlier, I learned a lot and gaining truth is not something to be ashamed about. However, staying on the Left would be shameful because it neglects reality and the nature of humanity. By the time I was 28 I began to realize this and gravitated towards the Right because the more I talked with a co-worker, who was a Conservative, the more I realized how grounded in reality Conservatism really is. It’s not the stuffy, Puritanical composition we were told about. It’s about conserving individual freedom to be what you want, to believe what you want without a bunch of busy bodies inserting themselves into your life. Now, I know we have Conservatives who do the same, but they are also told by their peers that they are being hypocritical. When Leftists don’t want their orthodoxy being challenged you are called a Right wing nut job, racist, homophobic or whatever other non-constructive criticism. Once again, there are Conservatives who do the same when challenged except they call you a Liberal if challenged. You’ll find those types everywhere you go. However, the peer review among Conservatives is a lot less alienating than among the Leftist circles. Conservatism is more inclusive than exclusive despite what the Liberal MSM states. As a pagan Conservative I’ve only had a few bumps in the road with fellow Conservatives but nothing that has damaged my experience. In fact, it has only served to strengthened my resolve within Conservatism to bridge the gap between Pagan Conservatives and Christian/Jewish Conservatives.
As I stated earlier, at 28 I went to the Right, which for me was the Center, while having political discussions with a Conservative co-worker of mine. By then the only thing I saw of Glenn Beck was a crying version of him touting his 9/12 Project. I thought, “What the hell is with this crying man and why do people give a damn about what he says?” I’ll didn’t look into him further and that I do regret because the wisdom I see today I wish I had witnessed at that pivotal point in my life. I became a fan of Glenn Beck after reading the Overton Window. I saw it on a shelf at Walgreens and thought, “Hell, why not? If I hate it, big deal, but what if I like it?” So I bought it, read through it within a week. I was astounded by it for the parallels between current events and what the book outlined. Afterwards, I actually started watching Glenn Beck and had my mind thoroughly blown after watching past episodes of his show where he made certain predictions that had already come to pass by the time I watch him. Amazed by this, I haven’t missed an episode since and went Right of Center and that’s where I remain. I probably be aptly called Libertarian because I’m all for gay marriage as long as religious businesses and institutions are allowed to exempt themselves from partaking in something they feel is morally wrong. No one should be forced by coercion of the state into performing or catering to something they feel is wrong. That isn’t freedom, that’s fascism.
Though my story is less than amazing and is rather mediocre in comparison to others who went from radical Left to Right, but it’s still a story where someone escaped the vulturous grip of Leftism and found a bright light on the Right side of the political spectrum plus a new found respect and love for my country. Love for country is something that didn’t exist when I was on the Left because it was nationalism and went against the internationalist ideal of communism. I’m thankful for the Gods for pulling me to the Right and away from utopian naivete. Ignorance is never blissful, it’s degrading of the human spirit. That’s just not me.
